James Jacobson has more than 25 years of experience in the real estate industry, with deep expertise in sourcing and developing properties within the commercial office market. Through Salus Property Investments, Mr. Jacobson directs a unique investment program that provides individual and institutional investors with access to commercial real estate properties that are leased by the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA). Mr. Jacobson is also the fund manager for SALUS Government Properties Fund, LLC.
Mr. Jacobson has extensive background in the acquisition, financing and development of GSA properties and commercial real estate throughout the U.S. He oversees Salus’ full scope of investment activities, which includes managing a multi-million-dollar portfolio, sourcing and acquiring properties, securing financing and working closely with development partners, equity partners, and senior lenders.
For the past ten years, Mr. Jacobson has focused exclusively on acquiring and managing properties leased to federal, state and county agencies. Prior to forming Salus Property Investments, Mr. Jacobson founded Capstone Property Investments, LLC, which also owns and operates properties leased to the federal government. Under his direction, Salus acquired a 50% interest in Capstone Property Investments in 2007.
Previously, Mr. Jacobson served as Managing Director of a privately held family real estate investment enterprise. In this role, he was responsible for the acquisition and disposition of properties and oversight of value-added renovations and reconstruction of office buildings and properties. These investments included an office building purchased out of foreclosure from Prudential Life that was refurbished and later sold at a profit, to the development of commercial properties and private estates in Southern California. Mr. Jacobson also spent 10 years in venture capital, focused primarily on the biotechnology industry. In this capacity, he worked on projects licensed from the Weismann Institute of Science, overseeing and funding research into Alzheimer’s Disease. He was instrumental in the development and implementation of commercially-sponsored, low-overhead, university subcontracted research programs that maximized research and development budgets.
Mr. Jacobson is a member of numerous real estate industry organizations, including: the National Council of Real Estate Investment Fiduciaries (NCREIF), the Federal Real Property Association (FRPA), the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM), and the Building Owners & Managers Association (BOMA).
Throughout his career, Mr. Jacobson has served in positions on the Board of Directors of leading organizations, including Director, Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Council; American Committee for the Weizmann Institute of Science; American Technion Institute of Technology; Technion 2000 (Founder, past President); and President, Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club.
Mr. Jacobson received a graduate degree in international business from UCLA’s Anderson School of Management. He resides in Charlotte, North Carolina with his wife and two children and serves as a Trustee at Providence Day School.
